3D Exercise 58

Exercise 58
Exercise 58

In this CAD tutorial we'll use the features:

1. Revolve

Definition: Creates a solid by spinning a sketch profile around an axis. How it works: You draw half the cross-section of a round object (like a wheel rim) and a center line. Fusion spins it 360° to make the solid shape. Best for: Cylindrical parts like pulleys, flanges, or vases.

2. Offset Plane (Construction)

Definition: Creates a sketching surface parallel to an existing face but at a specific distance away. How it works: If you need to draw a sketch that "floats" in the middle of your part (to start a Rib or a Cut), you use this to create that floating canvas. Best for: Setting up the sketch plane for the Rib tool.

3. Rib

Definition: Specifically designed to create thin support walls (stiffeners) or "webs" to strengthen a part. How it works:

  • The Magic: Unlike Extrude, you do not need a closed shape (like a rectangle). You just draw a single open line connecting two walls.

  • The Action: The Rib tool automatically takes that line, extends it until it hits the solid body walls, and fills the space with material. Best for: Adding triangular stiffeners to brackets or internal supports to plastic enclosures without drawing complex geometry.

4. Circular Pattern

Definition: Duplicates a feature multiple times in a circle. How it works: Instead of drawing and creating 6 separate Ribs, you create one Rib. Then, you use Circular Pattern to copy it 6 times around the center axis. Best for: Spokes on a wheel, bolt holes on a flange, or cooling fins.

5. Mirror

Definition: Creates a symmetrical copy of your features or bodies. How it works: You select the features (like the Ribs you just made) and a mirror plane (the middle of the part). Fusion generates the identical features on the other side. Best for: Ensuring perfect symmetry and saving 50% of your modeling time.

6. Extrude

Definition: Pushes or pulls a sketch to add or remove material. How it works: After you have the complex shape (from Revolve and Ribs), you might use Extrude to cut a simple keyway slot or bolt holes. Best for: Simple cuts, holes, and mounting faces.

7. Fillet

Definition: Rounds off sharp edges. How it works: This is the final step. You select the edges where the Ribs meet the main body and add a small radius. Best for: Reducing stress concentrations (making the part stronger) and making it look manufactured.
