CATICS 3D02_05

Catics - 3D02_05 Model
Exercise 100 - 3D02_05

In this CAD tutorial we'll use the features:

1. Extrude (with Taper Angle)

Definition: Creates a 3D shape that gets wider or narrower as it grows, rather than having straight vertical walls. How it works:

  • The Input: Inside the standard Extrude command, look for the "Taper Angle" box.

  • Positive Taper (+): The shape flares out (like a funnel).

  • Negative Taper (-): The shape points inward (like a pyramid). Best for:

  • Stackability: Designing cups or bins that need to nest inside one another.

  • Mold Release: If you are designing for plastic injection molding, you need a "Draft Angle" (usually 2° or 3°) so the part doesn't get stuck in the metal mold.

2. Shell

Definition: Hollows out a solid body. How it works:

  • The Magic: You don't need to sketch the inner walls. You just select the Top Face of your tapered block and type "2mm".

  • Result: Fusion instantly creates a container with perfect wall thickness that follows the taper you created in step 1. Best for: Turning a solid block into a bucket, cup, or housing.

3. Fillet

Definition: Rounds off sharp edges. How it works: Applies a radius to the corners. Best for:

  • Aesthetics: A square plant pot looks cheap with sharp corners; rounded corners look premium.

  • Strength: Sharp corners are "Stress Concentrators" where plastic likes to crack. Fillets distribute the stress.

4. Hole

Definition: Creates standard circular openings. How it works: Drills through the solid material. Best for: Drainage holes (in a pot) or cable pass-throughs (in a desk organizer).

All dimensions are in mm/g/s/ISO
